Laminitis is a true medical emergency. Quick action can make all the difference in your horse’s recovery. If you suspect laminitis, here’s what to do right away:
Call your vet immediately.
Ice or Cryotherapy the feet. Minimum 2x p/day.
Restrict movement. Keep the horse in a deeply bedded stall to prevent further damage. Use therapy boots.
Feed ONLY soaked and drained hay until your vet gives further instructions. Nothing else. NOTHING.
Journal signs. Heat in the hooves, increased digital pulse, reluctance to move, feed intake, modalities initiated, vitals, etc.
Stay calm, act fast, and always put welfare first.
Consult an equine nutriton expert.
